Lantin, Antwerp, clichémaker: Joseph Maes, 1894, paper, collotype, photoprint, height 160 mm x width 219 mm, world fair, world exhibition, exhibition, show, A sepia photograph of an arched storefront with two large pointed arches separated by a central decorative pillar, both arches framed by patterned borders and floral motifs. Inside the arches are hanging textiles with geometric patterns forming dark draped canopies, and beneath them are stacked rugs and folded fabrics displayed along the side walls. Wooden shelving units filled with boxes and small objects sit toward the back under scalloped awnings, and a few rolled carpets and folded textiles lean against the walls near the entrance. The floor is tiled and the lower walls show horizontal banding, while ornamental vertical panels with repeating floral designs flank the outer edges of the scene.
