View of a home economics class, photograph, page, Antwerp, c. 1888 - in or before 1893, photographer, paper, daylight collodion silver print, height 105 mm x width 164 mm, elementary school, class, form, household chores, A sepia-toned indoor scene shows a row of young women and girls standing and working along a wall with shelves and framed illustrations, a crucifix, a wall clock, and decorative shields above them. The wall shelves hold metal pots, kettles, pans, and other kitchen utensils, and there are framed anatomical-style prints depicting cross-sections of meat. In front of the wall are tables, a stove, and a small blackboard propped on a mantel; various cooking tools and containers sit on the tables and stove. Several potted plants occupy a cabinet on the left, and jars and a lamp sit atop a cabinet on the right beside stacked chairs. The women wear long dresses and aprons; some hold utensils, a baking pan, a mop, or a bucket, while one kneels at the stove and another stands beside the blackboard. The floor area in front of them is empty aside from a small box and a broom.
