The lower illustration is a photographic print from the same nagative. Black and white in the negative appear white and black respectively in the positive. It will be observed that the right-hand of the negative is the left-hand of the positive. In the upper half the image appears as a high-contrast negative with dark sky, pale figures and carriages, lamp posts, and a tall column at one side; silhouettes of people stand in the foreground on a patterned pavement. In the lower half the image is a positive photograph showing the same building and tower under a light sky, horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians on the cobbled street, lamp posts and the tall column visible in the background, with two people standing in the foreground facing the scene.
