Court of the bishops palace, Liege, photograph, page, Liège, c. 1856 - in or before 1866, photographer, paper, albumen print, height 120 mm x width 183 mm, arcade, architecture, Palace of the Prince-Bishops, A long covered arcade with a series of stone columns and carved capitals supporting ribbed vaulted arches runs along the left side of the image, the columns showing twisted and fluted shafts and ornate bases, some with sculpted faces on the capitals. The vaulted ceiling displays intersecting ribs and brick infill, and slender horizontal rods span between the arches. Beyond the arcade, a courtyard with grass and scattered stone fragments is visible, along with a tall stone building featuring many tall windows with arched and rectangular tops and decorative masonry around them. In the foreground on the right, there are several carved stone pedestals and bases, one partially broken, and a small stone basin sits near the nearest column. The overall scene is rendered in a pale, sepia tone and shows wear and spots on the image surface.
