He stands beneath a rounded archway with carved pilasters on either side and patterned drapery hanging to one side. Behind him an interior space contains an easel, a small table, and a globe-like object. On the ledge in front of him lie folded sheets of paper and a decorative sword with an ornate hilt and a long, patterned strap that hangs down. Below the ledge is a carved relief panel depicting a group of cherubic children interacting with a small goat. The image is rendered with fine line work and tonal shading.
