Ryde, from the pier, photograph, page, photographer: William Russell Sedgfield, c. 1859 - in or before 1869, Isle of Wight, paper, albumen print, height 101 mm x width 144 mm, city-view in general, 'veduta', pier, quay, wharf, A wide wooden pier extends toward a distant shoreline, with wooden planks forming the walking surface and railings running along both sides; a pavilion with a pointed central finial and a column rises on the right side of the pier, and a tall thin mast stands beyond it; the shoreline shows rows of buildings and trees with various rooflines and a few church spires faintly visible against a pale sky; calm water borders the left side of the pier and small boats appear near the right shoreline; the overall image has a sepia tone and an aged, slightly faded appearance.
