In the foreground a seated soldier in a uniform and bicorn hat leans back against a crate while holding a cane and a cup, and beside him a standing woman in a striped dress and bonnet extends one arm outward and holds a small bucket. A crouched man works with a seated figure’s foot, appearing to tend to it, while other figures cluster and move in the middle ground. To the left, a formation of soldiers with pikes stands aligned, and to the right several mounted figures and people on the ground are visible near the buildings. The scene is framed by a thin rectangular border and rendered with fine crosshatching and stippling.
