In the foreground, mounted soldiers in period military uniforms sit on horses facing away and to the side, wearing tall hats and holding reins and sabers; two central riders are prominent, one wearing a plumed hat and the other a fur or tasseled headpiece. A man lies on the ground near the horses, his body angled and one arm outstretched while his head tilts back. Additional figures and soldiers appear among the trees and behind the mounted group. The sky is filled with fine horizontal engraving lines and scattered clouds, and the lower border of the image contains printed text that is not described.
