He wears a dark coat with a visible collar and holds a small flower by its stem in one hand, the hand positioned near his chest and partially resting on the coat; the fingers and knuckles are rendered with visible texture. His eyes look forward beneath furrowed brows and there are fine lines and shading on his forehead and around his eyes. The background is filled with dense crosshatching and textured shading suggesting foliage. The overall image is finely detailed with varied line work throughout the face, clothing, hand, and background.
