Sorengo, print, View of the Swiss village of Sorengo near Lugano., printmaker: Frederika Henriëtte Broeksmit (signed by artist), 1885 - 1931, paper, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, etching with plate tone, proof, height 133 mm x width 197 mm, city-view, and landscape with man-made constructions, A sketched landscape shows a cluster of buildings on a low hill with a tall tower rising above them, the tower topped by a small dome and a finial. The buildings have tiled roofs, chimneys, and stone or brick facades rendered with crosshatching and fine lines. In front of the structures, the ground slopes down with textured lines suggesting grass, earth, and low vegetation. To the left, a tall, narrow tree with irregular branches stands near the buildings, and to the right sparse leafless branches and shrubs appear on the hillside. The sky is empty and lightly shaded, forming a pale backdrop to the detailed foreground.
