Walkers on a path between two hills, print, printmaker: Arnoud Schaepkens, 1855 - 1904, paper, chine collé, etching, drypoint, etching and drypoint, height 260 mm x width 183 mm, forest path or lane, low hill country, A narrow, vertically oriented monochrome etching depicting a winding dirt path or stream flanked by tall grasses and sloping banks, with slender, leafy trees rising along both sides; dense, scribbled foliage fills the middle ground and distant treeline, while the foreground shows textured grass and vegetation. Two small seated human figures appear on the path further back, and a single small figure sits closer to the foreground facing the path. The sky above is pale and largely empty, with faint scratches and marks from the etching process. The overall image is composed of fine, crosshatched lines and varied ink density creating depth and texture.
