Steamboat in the Westerdok in Amsterdam, print, The stern of a cargo boat. A tjalk is moored alongside., workshop stamp: 'ATELIER P. DUPONT', printmaker: Pieter Dupont, Amsterdam, 1895, paper, zinc etching, intaglio printmaking technique, height 148 mm x width 196 mm, ships (in general), Westerdok, A detailed monochrome etching shows a large ship seen from the water with its hull dominating the upper portion of the image and a smaller boat moored alongside it. The scene includes a ladder leaning against the larger vessel, rigging and masts crisscrossing above, and figures on the decks and in the smaller boat. The water in the foreground is rendered with dense horizontal and swirling etched lines indicating ripples and reflections, and there are posts and a partially visible small craft at the lower left. The image is textured with fine crosshatching and scratchy lines throughout, creating contrasts between the solid mass of the ship and the restless surface of the water.
