The prints were produced by various artists based on drawings by Daniel Chodowiecki. In 1774 the collected print work was published under the title: Kupfersammlung zu JB Basedows Elementarwerk für die Jugend und ihre Freunde., Person, Johann Bernhard Basedow, garden, garden fountain, group dancing, reading, eating, harp - CC - out of doors, A detailed black and white engraving shows a formal garden with tall trees framing a central pathway leading to a building with arched windows and a balustraded roof topped by small statues; a circular fountain sits before the building and a rectangular reflecting pool runs toward the foreground. Groups of people in period clothing occupy the garden: some stand and converse near hedges, a few sit or recline on the ground having a picnic with various vessels and plates, and others stroll or dance in pairs and small clusters. Sculptural figures are placed along the terrace and against tall hedges on the right, where a seated figure plays a harp beneath overhanging foliage. In the distant landscape beyond the garden, grazing animals and scattered trees appear beneath a sky marked by fine horizontal lines and sparse cloud formations.
