The prints were produced by various artists based on drawings by Daniel Chodowiecki. In 1774 the collected print work was published under the title: Kupfersammlung zu JB Basedows Elementarwerk für die Jugend und ihre Freunde., Person, Johann Bernhard Basedow, garden, garden fountain, group dancing, reading, eating, harp - CC - out of doors, An engraved scene shows a formal garden with tall trees framing a central terrace and a rectangular reflecting pool with a circular fountain at its far end, a colonnaded pavilion with arched windows beyond the fountain, and sculpted statues on plinths around the terrace; numerous figures in period dress occupy the foreground and midground, including seated and reclining people having a picnic with baskets and plates, couples standing and conversing, children playing and dancing, and a few men wearing hats and coats; hedges and clipped trees form alleys and walls, while grazing livestock and distant hills appear beyond the garden on the left; the sky is filled with fine horizontal lines and faint cloud forms.
