The Spanish gypsy 'Preciosa', print, The Spanish gypsy Preciosa and the old woman Majombe. Both figures are taken from the story 'La Gitanella' by Miguel de Cervantes from 1613, known in the Netherlands as 'Het Spaans Heidinnetje'. This copy first used in: Recueil de Quatre-Vingt-Cinq estampes originales, tetes, paysages et différens sujets, 1819., wandering communities: Romani or Roma, Preciosa, Roma, A monochrome ink drawing shows two figures standing close together in front of a shaded, densely hatched backdrop that suggests foliage. One figure appears older, wearing a hooded cloak and a layered garment, with a lined face and a shawl draped around the shoulders. The other figure is smaller, wearing a long dress with a patterned front panel and a head covering, holding a tall staff or stick with both hands. Surrounding them are finely crosshatched trees, leaves, and textured ground, with lighter open space toward the top and bottom of the image.
