Photo reproduction of a print of an allegory on the origin of free thought, photograph, reproduction, page, after print by anonymous, c. 1856 - in or before 1861, photographer, after print by, paper, albumen print, height 139 mm x width 214 mm, 'Philosophia', 'Filosofia' (Ripa), A grayscale illustration shows a procession scene with a raised platform on the left topped by a small temple-like structure and a standing female figure holding a torch and a wreath, a chair visible under the structure and draped fabric around the platform; in front of the platform two men in period clothing converse while several young attendants lead a team of horses harnessed to a chariot, the attendants wearing simple tunics and holding reins, some horses shown in profile and others facing forward; further right, additional figures in feathered hats and cloaks stand near the horses, and the ground beneath all figures appears textured with faint marks.
