To the left, a cluster of figures bend and reach toward objects on the ice while a man holds a hat and a small container, and to the right two men stand at the shore, one wearing a top hat and coat. A bare, leafless tree rises from the distant bank against a cloudy sky, and reflections and cracks are visible on the ice surface.
