He is lying on his left side with his knees drawn up and is wearing a loincloth (veshti, lungi) pulled up above his knees, one end of which hangs forward over the edge; his upper body is uncovered. Beneath him lies a cloth – probably his shawl (chadar) which is rolled up at the end to support his head. Given his clothing, the man may be from South India and employed in Colombo.
