Both figures wear loose, draped clothing with visible folds and creases, and the adult's hair is pulled back into a bun. The composition occupies the left portion of the paper, leaving a large empty background with faint horizontal lines and subtle shading. The shading around the figures emphasizes their forms and the contours of the fabric, and the visible feet of the adult rest on the ground with toes drawn in detail.
