Behind the building a fenced terrace with small groups of people and decorative elements faces a wide body of water where multiple sailing ships and smaller boats are afloat, some with raised sails and reflected in the water. Across the water a row of varied buildings, including structures with steep roofs and towers, lines the shore, and a windmill and several dockside buildings and masts are visible. Hills and scattered trees form the distant background beneath a sky with horizontal cloud bands. The image is rendered in fine monochrome line engraving with detailed architectural and maritime elements.
