Sundholm occasum versus, Torpa, View of Sundholm Castle and Torpa Castle, Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna, print, album page, printmaker: Johannes Jacobsz van den Aveele, Stockholm, supervision: Erik Jönssen Dahlberg, 1705, paper, etching, height 279 mm x width 337 mm, housing, Borås, Slot Sundholm, Slot Torpa, Langhem, A detailed engraved scene shows two horizontal panels stacked vertically, each depicting a waterfront with buildings and landscape. In the upper panel a large fortified house with a central tower and steep roofs sits on a narrow strip of land jutting into calm water, surrounded by trees and a low fence, with small boats and sailing ships in the water nearby and a distant tree-covered shoreline under a banded sky; the foreground across the water shows rocky shore, dense shrubbery, figures fishing from the bank, a person carrying a bundle, and a small rowboat with a seated figure. The lower panel presents a larger estate complex with a prominent multi-story building and an adjacent taller tower-like structure, flanked by smaller houses, outbuildings, gardens and a walled enclosure, with open fields and scattered trees in front, pathways with tiny walking figures and riders, and a varied treeline in the background beneath a similarly textured sky. The engraving uses fine crosshatching and line work to render textures of water, foliage, roofs and distant hills.
