Surrounding her are partially nude children engaged in artistic activities: one child on the left studies a vertical panel depicting a standing figure, two children near the center handle a round palette and brushes, a child in the foreground to the right kneels with a book, and another child on the far right leans over a basin. To the right of the woman an easel holds a canvas showing a sunburst over a landscape, and nearby a long-handled mirror or oval frame stands upright. The floor is tiled, and books and draped fabrics are scattered around the figures.
