Denarius, ca. 155–156 CE. Obverse: Head of young Marcus Aurelius without a cap to the right, inscription AVRELIVS CAES - PII F circumferential. Reverse: Virtus standing left, holding a parade dagger (parazonium) in his right hand and a spear with the head down in his left, inscription RP - OT X - COS II circumferential. Issuers: Marcus Aurelius (121–180, Roman emperor 161–180; caesar 139–161) and Antoninus Pius (86–161, Roman emperor 138–161); Marcus Aurelius noted as heir to the throne (138–161). Iconography includes personifications, parazonium, spears. Roman Empire, Rome. Coin: silver; diameter 16.0–17.5 mm; weight 3.35 g; axis 0°.
