Denarius, Antoninus Pius (86–161; Roman emperor 138–161) — issuer: Antoninus Pius; subject/iconography: personifications, snakes, paterae, Salus (personification), altars, head of the emperor in a laurel wreath. Obverse: Head of Antoninus Pius in a laurel wreath facing right, inscription ANTONINV, AVG PIVS PP TRP XXIII all around. Reverse: Salus standing left, in his outstretched right hand holding a patera above the altar around which a snake coils; in his left hand a long scepter, inscription SALVTI AVG COS IIII all around. Date: 159–160. Culture: Roman Empire (27 BC–476). Place: Rome. Object type: coin (denarius). Measurements: diameter 17.5–18.0 mm, weight 3.15 g, axis 180°.
