Denarius of Antoninus Pius (86–161; Roman emperor 138–161). Obverse: head of the emperor with a laurel wreath, legend ANT NINVS – AVG PIVS PP, facing right. Reverse: the emperor in a toga and veil stands left, holding a patera above a tripod (behind which lies a bull) in his right hand and a scroll in his left, legend VOTA SOL – DECENN II; inscribed COS IIII, dated 157–159. Iconography: veiled emperor, tripods, bulls, paterae, scrolls. Roman Empire (27 BC–476), Rome. Coin: diameter 16.5–18.0 mm, weight 3.05 g, axis 180°.
