Crown double-ducat by Ernest Dietrich Croll (fl. 1753–1763) for August III the Saxon (King of Poland; Elector of Saxony; 1696–1763), 1753. Minted in Leipzig, Poland. Obverse: crowned bust of the king in right profile, legend 'D.G.AUGUSTUS.III.REX.POLONIARUM'. Reverse: under the crown a five-opel shield between branches with the Polish, Lithuanian and Saxon coats of arms; below the letters 'E.DC'; inscription 'SAC.ROM.IMP.ARCHIM. ET ELECT.1753'. Coin (crown double-ducat), weight 6.95 g., A circular metallic object with a yellow-gold color and a slightly tarnished surface, showing an embossed central design divided into four quadrants by raised lines; each quadrant contains a raised animal figure and decorative flourishes, and there is a small shield-like emblem at the center. A large ornate crown with rounded arches and bead-like details sits above the central design, and stylized curved leaf or ribbon motifs flank the main circle. A beaded border runs close to the edge, and the outer rim is textured with short vertical grooves. The overall color palette is various shades of gold with subtle darker areas where the metal shows wear.
