Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Romanesque style, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Coin (denarius), diameter 12.0–13.2 mm, weight 0.58 g. Obverse: in beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's feet, a dot. Reverse: in triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, two quarters with two balls each (smaller ones closer to the center, larger ones farther), and two quarters with one ball each (one of them with a dot). Subjects/allegories: knights, martyrs, fight between good and evil, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), fight against pagans; motifs: spear/spearhead, chainmail, crosses, dragons, mouths.
