Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Obverse (in beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's right elbow, an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot). Reverse (in triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection a ball, with two radiating balls (smaller ones nearer the center, a larger one farther). Iconography: spearhead (issue mark), equal-armed cross, chainmail, crosses, martyrs, knight, Romanesque style, mouths, dragons, knights, Middle Ages, fight between good and evil, dragon, fight against pagans, St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997), spear(s).
