Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Obverse (in beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's right elbow, an isosceles cross topped with balls. Reverse (in triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot); at the intersection of the arms, a dot; between the arms, radiating two balls (smaller nearer the center, larger ones with one dot each). Iconography: knight, dragon, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; spear (issue mark). Romanesque style; references to Adalbert (Saint, ca. 956–997) and martyrs. Date ca. 1125–1138. Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.1–12.6 mm; weight 0.43 g.
