denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138), Romanesque, c. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków; coin; diameter 12.8 mm; weight 0.36 g. Obv.: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; at the knight's left foot, a figure resembling the number '7' angled toward the foot, its vertices marked with dots. Rv.: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms one ball (three of them have one dot); one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Iconography: spearhead, chain mail, equal-armed cross, chains/crosses, mouth, knight, martyrs, dragons, mouths, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), fight between good and evil, spear/spears, fight against pagans.
