Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Romanesque coin, ca. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków. Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's right elbow three dots forming a triangle; under the left elbow two vertically aligned dots. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot); between its arms one sun; in two quarters (closer to the center) one dot each; in the third quarter, a dot next to the ball at the end of the cross arm. Iconography: spearhead, chain mail, equal-armed cross, crosses, martyrs, knight, jaws, dragon, knights, dragons, fight between good and evil, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), spear, spears, fight against pagans. Diameter: 12.1–12.7 mm. Weight: 0.49 g.
