Lithuanian grosz on a Polish foot, Sigismund II Augustus (King of Poland; 1544–1572), Jagiellonians (dynasty). Obverse: Crowned male bust in armour turned right, separating an inscription in a half-circle at the top: SIGIS. - AVG.REX; at the bottom horizontally in two lines: POLO.MAG / DVX.LIT. Reverse: Lithuanian Chase (Pogon) turned left; below, under the crown, a tied monogram composed of the letters SA and the Columns of Gediminas coat of arms, which divide the inscription in the rim: MONE.MAG.DVC.LITVA. Date: 1546. Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Vilnius). Coin; diameter ~22.9–23.0 mm; weight 1.99 g., A round metallic coin with a worn surface showing a raised portrait of a crowned head in profile, surrounded by a beaded inner border and an outer rim; the coin appears silver-gray with darker gray areas in the recesses and lighter silvery highlights on the raised edges, and there is a band of raised lettering and decorative elements around the rim and across the lower portion of the coin.
