denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138; reign 1107–1138), Romanesque, c. 1125–1138, Poland, Kraków; coin. Obverse: in beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; under the knight's right elbow, an isosceles cross with arms tipped with balls. Reverse: in triple beaded border, an isosceles cross tipped with balls; at the intersection of the arms a ball; between its arms one ball (three of them have one dot); one arm bears a crossbar and intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Iconography: knight, dragon, spearhead, chain mail, equal-armed cross, martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, Saint Adalbert. Diameter: 12.2–12.4 mm; weight: 0.48 g.
