Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1086–1138), ca. 1125–1138. Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with crossbars; a dot at the intersection of the arms; between the arms, radiating two spheres (smaller ones closer to the center, larger ones—two of them—each with one dot). Iconography: knight, chain mail, spearhead/spear, dragon, equal-armed cross, crosses, mouths; themes of martyrs, fight against pagans, fight between good and evil; Romanesque style. Associated saint: Adalbert (ca. 956–997). Coin; Poland, Kraków. Diameter: 12.2–12.8 mm. Weight: 0.57 g.
