Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of a dragon turned upside down. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms a ball; between them one ball; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical Romanesque imagery: fight between good and evil, knight, dragons, martyrs, fight against pagans; motifs include crosses (equal-armed), chain mail, spear/spearhead, jaws. Inscribed/attributed to Boleslaw III Krzywousty (1086–1138). Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Coin (denarius). Diameter: 12.1–12.5 mm. Weight: 0.32 g.
