Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (two with one dot each); between its arms are balls (three with one dot each; possible fourth obscured by surface effacement). Iconography: spearhead, equal-armed cross, crosses, chainmail, martyrs, jaws, knight, dragon; themes of fight between good and evil and fight against pagans. Style: Romanesque, Middle Ages. Associated figure: Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997). Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Object: coin (denarius). Diameter: 12.8–13.2 mm. Weight: 0.35 g. State of preservation: very good.
