Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with spheres (two with one dot each); between its arms, in one quarter two radiating spheres (one smaller, one larger), and in the three remaining quarters one sphere each. Iconography: spearhead, chain mail, crosses, jaws, equal-armed cross, knight, dragon, martyrs, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), spear(s), fight between good and evil, fight against pagans; Romanesque style; Middle Ages. Attributed date ca. 1125–1138. Poland, Kraków. Coin (denarius). Diameter 12.7–13.5 mm. Weight 0.61 g.
