Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse (beaded border): a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse (triple beaded border): an isosceles cross topped with balls; a ball at the intersection of the arms and one between them; a dot near the end of one cross arm; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical Romanesque imagery evoking martyrs, knights, fight between good and evil and fight against pagans; references to spears, chain mail and dragons; possible association with Saint Adalbert. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.2–12.6 mm; weight 0.38 g.
