Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138). Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of a dragon turned upside down. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms, a ball; between them, one ball; in one quarter, near the ball at the end of the cross arm, a dot; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical Romanesque imagery: equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), chain mail, jaws, knight, dragons, martyrs, knights, Middle Ages, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, spears, Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997). Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.2–12.6 mm; weight 0.38 g.
