Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (three with one dot each); between its arms, one ball. Allegorical imagery referencing Adalbert (Saint; ca. 956–997), knights, martyrs, and the fight against pagans (struggle between good and evil). Romanesque style, Middle Ages, ca. 1125–1138. Coin (denarius), Poland, Kraków. Diameter 12.1–12.5 mm, weight 0.41 g.
