Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1107–1138), Romanesque style, ca. 1125–1138. Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; one ball between its arms. Allegories of martyrs, knights, dragons; themes of fight between good and evil and fight against pagans; spear/spearhead motifs. Associated names: Boleslaw III Krzywousty; Adalbert (St.; ca. 956–997). Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 11.9–12.4 mm; weight 0.15 g.
