Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1086–1138), ca. 1125–1138. Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; a ball at the intersection of the arms and another ball between them; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical imagery (martyrs, fight of good against evil, fight against pagans); Romanesque style. Spearhead (issue mark), spears, crosses, equal-armed cross, chain mail, jaws, dragons, knight. Inscription references: Boleslaw III Krzywousty, Wojciech (St.; ca. 956–997). Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.1–12.3 mm; weight 0.45 g.
