Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1107–1138). Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms a ball; between the arms one ball (one with a dot); in one quarter two balls. Iconography: spearhead, chain mail, equal-armed cross, mouths, martyrs, knight, dragons; themes of fight between good and evil and fight against pagans; Romanesque style; depiction associated with Saint Adalbert (ca. 956–997). ca. 1125–1138.
