Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in a linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; a dot on the outer side of the knight's left shin. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; one ball between its arms. Allegories of martyrs/knights; motifs include equal-armed cross, spearhead (issue mark), spears, chain mail, mouths, dragons; Romanesque style; themes: Adalbert (St.; ca. 956–997), fight between good and evil, fight against pagans. c. 1125–1138.
