Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138). Obverse: in the linear border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (two with one dot each); between its arms, one ball each with one dot. Allegorical imagery referencing St. Adalbert and the fight against pagans; motifs include equal-armed cross, crosses, spearhead (issue mark), spears, jaws, chain mail, knight, dragons, fight between good and evil; Romanesque style, Middle Ages. c. 1125–1138.
