Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland, c. 1086–1138), c. 1125–1138. Av.: In a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the upside-down jaws of a dragon. Rv.: In a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls (one with a dot); between its arms are balls (three with dots); one arm intersects the other at about 1/3 of its length. Attributes: spearhead (issue mark), equal-armed cross, crosses, chain mail, martyrs, dragon, knight, Romanesque style, Middle Ages, fight between good and evil, St. Adalbert (ca. 956–997), fight against pagans, spears.
