Denarius, Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; 1086–1138), c. 1125–1138. Obverse: in the beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon; above the knight's left foot, on its outer side, a dot. Reverse: in the triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; between its arms, one ball; one arm intersects the other at approximately 1/3 of its length. Allegorical/ Romanesque imagery referencing martyrs, knights, Adalbert (St., ca. 956–997), fight against pagans, fight between good and evil. Issue mark: spearhead. Materials/technique: coin. Place: Poland, Kraków. Diameter: ~12.3–12.6 mm. Weight: 0.36 g.
