Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; c.1086–1138), c. 1125–1138. Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the upside-down jaws of a dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms a ball; between the arms three quarters show a single ball and the fourth a dot; one arm intersects the other at approx. 1/3 of its length. Iconography: knight, dragon, spearhead, crosses, chain mail; themes of martyrs, fight between good and evil, fight against pagans, St. Adalbert. Romanesque style. Mint/place: Poland, Kraków. Coin; diameter 12.2–12.8 mm; weight 0.25 g.
