Denarius of Boleslaw III Krzywousty (prince of Poland; ca. 1086–1138). Obverse: in a beaded border, a knight in chain mail thrusting a spearhead into the jaws of an upside-down dragon. Reverse: in a triple beaded border, an isosceles cross topped with balls; at the intersection of the arms a ball, and between them one ball; one arm intersects the other at approx. 1/3 of its length. Iconography: equal-armed cross, spearhead, crosses, chain mail, mouth, knight, dragons, martyrs, Adalbert (St.; ca. 956–997), spear, fight against pagans; Romanesque style; Middle Ages; allegory of the fight of good against evil. Date: ca. 1125–1138. Place: Kraków, Poland. Object: coin (denarius). Diameter: 11.8–12.2 mm. Weight: 0.34 g.
