Obverse: male bust of Frederick Kettler (Duke of Courland and Semigallia; 1587–1642) in armor decorated with a ruff, facing right, separating the rim inscription '.MO.ARG - DVCVM.CVR.' Right border: an eagle and a chase, with rosettes between them and above the value numeral 'III'. Below, a four-line inscription with date digits separated by a rosette: 'GROS.ARTR/DVCVM CV/.ET SE./9 - 7' — 1597. Features: emblems of the Kettler family (White Eagle, Pogon), portraits/bust iconography (male busts, princely busts, male busts with a ruff and in armor, portraits facing right).
